Creation Care

Memorial UMC is a member of One Home One Future, a multi-faith campaign to strengthen vitality, relevance, and community connection across generations in local congregations nationwide. We are part of a visible effort to invite creation care and climate action, no matter if you are just getting started or already engaging.

Initiatives take on site:
    - Recycling in every room: single stream recycling

    - Plastic Bags/Film, Styrofoam and Battery collection for the local recycling center

    - Refillable water bottle station

    - LED lightbulbs

    - "Turn Off Lights" and "Please Close Door" signs to save energy.

    - Increasing use of real cups and utensils instead of single-use items

    - Using up what we have instead of buying new (e.g. hospitality items and furniture)

    - Xeriscaping with more to come. Xeriscaping, as defined by National Geographic, is the practice of designing landscapes to reduce or eliminate the need for irrigation.

    - We'll be updating our labyrinth to become a Sacred Grounds or Certified Wildlife Habitat in 2024.

    - Composting is in discussion for the campus.
