Property Prep for Spring

The Labyrinth and the Courtyard

Saturday, March 24, 2024

So many people will be joining us for Holy Week and Spring Fling, we want to work on our big outdoor space! Friday we spent the morning weeding, clearing out, resurfacing the maze/spiral and clearing plants at our labyrinth. We moved several red yucca to the front and were able to successfully separate out these large plants into several smaller plantings. Xeriscaping and reuse!

Next, power washing!

We are slowing working on our courtyard area as well. There are some overgrown and invasive plants that needed to be addressed and we need to refresh the space and make it more multi-group friendly. Our daycare uses it quite a bit so we're working on making it an enjoyable and comfortable outside space. Pictures to come.

Church Lawn Clean Up

Saturday, January 27, 2024

Saturday, we bagged leaves around the property and gutters for beauty as well as safety.
We also had breakfast tacos! Many thanks to those who came out or contributed supplies.

Part of creation care is caring for the gifts God has given us. Here we are taking care of our very large site in December 2023.

Dumpster Climbing

December 2023

We are grateful to Captain Hook Austin for providing the best price and an enormous dumpster for our property clean up. We had a lot of old wood, pallets and sheds full of old things (decades worth) that were no usable, repairable or recyclable that we need to dispose. Captain Hook gave us the best price and were quick and easy to work with. Thank you so much! We filled it to the brim!

A New Flat Sidewalk

December 2023

Much thanks to Nixon Engineering, particularly John Alan Nixon, for our beautiful and completely flat new sidewalk in front of the Narthex doors, which is the north entry into the Sanctuary. The original sidewalk from 1957 was very cracked and even and John took it upon himself to get this taken care of for us before our 150th Annivesary and Advent. Thank you!

The power of power washing

December 6, 2023

We are so sparkly now! Here are the before and after pictures of the power washing done this morning. We are so grateful to Ian and John at ATX Clean Pressure Washing LLC for the great job they did on the church! We only did the front of the property/church today. The rest is on the list for the new year.

Go Girl Scouts!

Thanksgiving 2023

The Girl Scouts have been working on their room at Memorial and we have to share! It turned out beautifully and we are so thankful and excited to share these photos with you! We removed some of the shelving to make more space for them (the room used to be the children's library) which will be reused to make cross sculptures and they used Austin Recycles recycled ReBlend paint in Texas Limestone for the wallls. Memorial and the Girl Scouts provided new ceiling tiles and we'll be replacing the carpet soon. They had helpers (adults and/or Girl Scouts from all these troops:
Troop 172
Troop 2249
Troop 25686
Troop 45400
Troop 45401
Troop 45403
Thank you! It definitely inspired us and our community partners to work on our other rooms. We've been doing a lot of updating this season and we hope you'll come by for Girl Scouts, worship, Sunday School or one of our upcoming classes or events! We are blessed that Carolyn worked so hard coordinating this project for the girls and us.
